Forestry Schools and Research Act
Chapter R-1 is replaced by the Forest Act (chapter F-4.1). (1986, c. 108, s. 237).

1. The Government is empowered, upon the recommendation of the Minister of Energy and Resources, to make the necessary arrangements and agreements for the following purposes:
(1)  To establish and organize a school of forest rangers intended to assure the recruiting of officers for the protection of the forests and for the control of cutting and the measuring of the timber on Crown and private lands;
(2)  In order to secure the proper working of forest research stations and laboratories in Québec.

2. The Government may authorize the Minister of Energy and Resources to acquire, by mutual agreement or by expropriation, the lands necessary for the purpose of section 1 of this act.

3. The Minister of Energy and Resources shall be empowered to receive contributions, subsidies or donations which associations or individuals may give or make to assist in the development and proper operation of the various schools of forest engineers and rangers, the Paper-Making Institute of the Province of Québec, or the forest research stations and laboratories. Such contributions, subsidies or donations shall form special funds, each one designated under the name of the institution for which such contributions, subsidies or donations shall have been made by the donor, and such sums shall be administered by the Minister of Energy and Resources.

4. The Government may, upon the conditions that may be agreed upon between it and the Syndicat financier de l’Université Laval à Québec, grant to the said Syndicat an annual amount of $15 000 to aid in the maintaining of a chair or school of instruction in forestry and surveying.

5. The head of the Service forestier du Québec shall be ex-officio inspector-general of instruction in forestry and director-general of the forest research stations or laboratories.

6. This Act shall operate notwithstanding the provisions of sections 2 and 7 to 15 of the Constitution Act, 1982 (Schedule B of the Canada Act, chapter 11 in the 1982 volume of the Acts of the Parliament of the United Kingdom).

REPEAL SCHEDULE

In accordance with section 17 of the Act respecting the consolidation of the statutes (chapter R-3), chapter 98 of the Revised Statutes, 1964, in force on 31 December 1977, is repealed effective from the coming into force of chapter R-1 of the Revised Statutes.
The Minister for Forests exercises, under the authority of the Minister of Energy and Resources, the functions with respect to the application of this Act. O.C. 2649-85 of 85.12.13, (1986) 118 G.O. 2 (French), 171.
