The Inspector General may, on his or her own initiative, conduct or commission any examination and any investigation the Inspector General considers expedient for the purposes of this Act, into the internal affairs and the activities of any financial services cooperative, legal person referred to in the first paragraph of section 480 or holding company controlled by the cooperative.
In addition, the Inspector General may order the person in charge of audits or the person in charge of inspections in a federation to conduct such examinations and investigations into the internal affairs and the activities of credit unions as the Inspector General considers expedient.
