Forestry Merit Act
Chapter M-11 is replaced by the Forestry Merit Act (chapter M-11.1). (1989, c. 44, s. 12).

1. The Minister of Energy and Resources shall have charge of the carrying out of this Act.

The Minister for Forests exercises, under the authority of the Minister of Energy and Resources, the functions with respect to the application of this Act. O.C. 2649-85 of 85.12.13, (1986) 118 G.O. 2 (French), 171.
2. The Order of Forestry Merit of Québec is established for the purpose
(a)  of recognizing services rendered to the progress of forestry;
(b)  of encouraging by honours and rewards the rational apportionment of private forests, the practice of reforestation and sound forest care.

3. To that end, the Government may award the following distinctions and decorations:
(a)  the title and decoration of Grand Officer of the Order of Forestry Merit and the diploma of highly distinguished merit;
(b)  the title and decoration of Commander of the Order of Forestry Merit and the diploma of distinguished merit;
(c)  the title and decoration of Officer of the Order of Forestry Merit and the diploma of great merit;
(d)  the title and decoration of Knight of the Order of Forestry Merit and the diploma of merit.

4. The title and decoration of Grand Officer of Forestry Merit and the diploma of highly distinguished merit may be awarded to any person who has rendered outstanding services to forestry by his work in industry, in a public occupation or on scientific or official missions, by forestry research work, by works or publications on forestry or by the establishment of scholarships or endowments to promote the teaching of forestry, the rational apportionment of forests, forest conservation or reforestation.

5. The titles and decorations of commander, officer and knight of forestry merit and the diplomas of distinguished merit, great merit and merit may be awarded, in order of merit, after competitions organized each year for the whole of Québec or for any part thereof, to any farmer or land owner who has distinguished himself in forest conservation, rational apportionment of forests, the application of the principles of forestry or reforestation undertakings.

6. The Minister of Energy and Resources shall appoint the judges of the competitions; the latter shall transmit to him a detailed report on the works of each competitor.

7. The Government may make regulations for the carrying out of this act and in particular:
(a)  determine the conditions for competitions and for the awards of the Order of Forestry Merit;
(b)  prescribe the form of the decorations attached to the various titles of the order: medals, diplomas, rosettes or ribbons;
(c)  create a division of the Order of Forestry Merit for young sons of farmers, settlers or land owners and provide special distinctions for them, different from those of section 3 of this act.

REPEAL SCHEDULE

In accordance with section 17 of the Act respecting the consolidation of the statutes (chapter R-3), chapter 99 of the Revised Statutes, 1964, in force on 31 December 1977, is repealed effective from the coming into force of chapter M-11 of the Revised Statutes.
