161. In the case of a first offence committed by the holder of a permit, the court may, in its discretion, if the fine and costs are not paid forthwith, fix a later date for such payment. It may also order that the defendant be arrested, unless he binds himself to appear on the day fixed, by giving security, to the satisfaction of the court, for the payment of a sum equal to the amount of the fine and costs. The court may receive such security in such form as it may deem expedient. If on the day fixed such fine and costs are not paid, the complainant may exercise his option under section 155 and the offender shall be dealt with according to the terms of that section and section 156.
