84. The driver of an automobile involved in an accident shall

(a)  remain at or immediately return to the scene of the accident;

(b)  render all reasonable assistance and

(c)  give in writing to anyone sustaining loss or injury or to any peace officer or to a witness, his name and address and also the name and address of the registered owner and the number of the driver’s permit and the registration number of the vehicle or such of this information as is then requested.

Whosoever contravenes this section shall be guilty of an offence and liable, in addition to the costs, to a fine of $100 to $300 and to imprisonment for not more than one month. In the case of a subsequent offence within two years he shall be liable, in addition to the costs, to a fine of $300 to $600 and to imprisonment for not more than two months.

In any conviction under this section, the judge or magistrate shall suspend, for a period of three to six months or, in the case of a subsequent offence, six months to one year, the driver’s permit of the accused.
