636. Every peace officer recognizable as such at first sight may, in the performance of his duties under this Code, agreements entered into under section 519.65 and the Act respecting owners, operators and drivers of heavy vehicles (chapter P-30.3), require the driver of a road vehicle to stop his vehicle. The driver must comply with this requirement without delay.

636. Every peace officer who, in the performance of the duties conferred on him under this Code, has reasonable cause to believe that an offence against this Code has been committed and that it is required by the circumstances, may
(1)  stop a road vehicle;
(2)  without the owner’s permission, take possession of a road vehicle, drive it and impound it at the expense of the owner.
