216. (1) The deputy returning-officer and the poll-clerk, immediately after the votes have been counted, shall take and subscribe respectively the oaths in the forms 27 and 28, which shall remain attached to the poll-book.The deputy returning-officer shall then make out a statement in triplicate, in the form 29, one copy to remain attached to the poll-book, one copy to be retained by the deputy returning-officer and the third copy to be enclosed by him in a special envelope supplied for the purpose, which envelope he shall seal and deposit in the ballot-box.
(2) The deputy returning-officer shall then, when so requested, deliver to each of the candidates, or to their agents, or, in the absence of the candidates and agents, to the electors present representing the candidates, a certificate, in the form 30, of the number of votes given for each candidate, and of the number of rejected ballot-papers. He shall also, forthwith after the close of the poll, mail to each candidate, by registered or certified letter, to the address stated in the ballot-paper, a like certificate.
(3) The deputy returning-officer shall place the poll-book, the envelopes containing the ballot-papers, the envelope containing the electoral list, and all other documents which served at the election, except the statement of the poll, in the large envelope supplied for the purpose. He shall seal such large envelope and place it in the ballot-box.
(4) The ballot-box shall then be locked by the deputy returning-officer and sealed with his seal, and shall be forthwith delivered by him to the returning-officer or to the election-clerk, who shall receive the same, or to one or more persons specially appointed for that purpose by the returning-officer.Such person or persons shall, on delivering the ballot-boxes to the returning-officer, take the oath in the form 31.
