If the tolls be not paid within six weeks, the company may sell the whole or any part of such goods, and, out of the money arising from such sale, retain the tolls payable and all charges and expenses of such detention and sale, returning the surplus, if any, of the money realized at such sale, or such of the goods as remain unsold, to the person entitled thereto.
