Every person who, by action or omission, does anything that will directly and seriously compromise the health, safety or physical well-being of a worker is liable to a fine of not less than $500 nor more than $1,000 in the case of a natural person, and to a fine of not less than $5,000 nor more than $20,000 in the case of a legal person.
For any subsequent offence, the fines provided for in the first paragraph are increased to a minimum of $1,000 and a maximum of $2,000, in the case of a natural person, and to a minimum of $10,000 and a maximum of $50,000 in the case of a legal person.
