The Government may, by regulation, in the cases determined in the regulation, determine the minimum qualifications required to exercise investigative or managerial functions within a police force, and to exercise a function or be promoted to a higher rank in a police force other than the Sûreté du Québec.
Municipalities may, by by-law, in the cases determined in the by-law, prescribe qualifications in addition to those determined by the Government, that apply to the members of their police forces.
