17.The provisions of this Act which grant rights and privileges to a religious confession shall apply despite sections 3 and 10 of the Charter of human rights and freedoms (chapter C-12).

17.Notwithstanding sections 3 and 10 of the Charter of human rights and freedoms (chapter C-12), this Act does not encroach upon freedom of conscience or freedom of religion or upon the right to full and equal recognition and exercise of freedom of conscience and freedom of religion for the sole reason that it grants rights and privileges to a religious confession.
17.This Act shall operate notwithstanding the provisions of sections 2 and 7 to 15 of the Constitution Act, 1982 (Schedule B of the Canada Act, chapter 11 in the 1982 volume of the Acts of the Parliament of the United Kingdom).
