The presiding officer is a keeper of the peace from 8 o’clock in the morning on the day of nomination of candidates, until 9 o’clock in the morning on the day which follows the close of the poll. He possesses in this respect all the powers of a justice of the peace, and may exercise them throughout the municipality.
He must secure the admittance of every elector into the polling station, and must see that he is not impeded or molested at or about the polling station.
