The judge may order imprisonment and issue a warrant of committal if he is satisfied that the measures provided for in this chapter to recover the sums due do not permit, in this particular case, full recovery of the sums due. However, the judge may order imprisonment and issue the warrant only if he is satisfied that the defendant has, without a reasonable excuse, refused or neglected to pay those sums or settle them pursuant to this chapter.
The reasons for ordering imprisonment shall be given in writing.
