12. The term of office of an elected director is two years for a maximum of two terms in the same office. Despite the foregoing, an elected director other than the Bâtonnier who has been in office for two terms may, two years after the expiry of the second term, again hold office as a director.
The term of office of a director appointed in accordance with the second paragraph of section 10 is of the same duration as the terms of the other directors. Such a director cannot be reappointed in that capacity.

12. (1) The members of the Bar shall elect the Bâtonnier of the Province of Québec and the vice-president by a general vote.
Their terms of office shall be fixed by by-law of the General Council and section 95.2 of the Professional Code (chapter C-26) shall apply to such by-law.
(2) All members of the Bar except solicitors and retired advocates shall be eligible to the offices of Bâtonnier of the Province of Québec and of vice-president, and entitled to vote at an election.
(3) A candidate for the office of Bâtonnier must however have been a member of the General Council for at least one year during the five years preceding the date of the election.
(4) Every nomination for the office of Bâtonnier of the Province of Québec or of vice-president must be supported by the signature of not less than 30 advocates practising in at least six sections.
(5) If there is only one candidate for the office of Bâtonnier of the Province of Québec or of vice-president, he shall be declared elected.
(6) If an election is necessary, it shall be held according to the mode and procedure for nominations and elections established under the Professional Code (chapter C-26).
(7) The Bâtonnier of the Province of Québec and the vice-president shall assume office at the annual general meeting provided for in section 103 of the Professional Code and shall remain in office until the expiry of their term, their death, resignation, replacement or disbarment.
