The Minister of Municipal Affairs is responsible for the administration of this Act. Order in Council 1646-2022 dated 20 October 2022, (2022) 154 G.O. 2 (French), 6518.

The words
“
public buildings
”
, used in this Act, shall have the same meaning as that attributed to them by section 2 of the Public Buildings Safety Act (
chapter S-3
).

Every local municipality may make by-laws respecting the construction, furnishing (
aménagement
) and putting into use of public buildings situated in its territory.

The municipality may appoint commissions and subcommissions to better supervise the construction, interior arrangement (
aménagement
) and operation of public buildings situated in its territory, and define the respective powers of such commissions and subcommissions.

In addition to its general by-laws, such city or town may enact special regulations in order to secure better policing, keeping of order and supervision of its public buildings generally, and, more particularly, of establishments where shows, theatrical and moving picture performances, concerts, exhibitions, balls and amusements whatsoever, to which the public is admitted, are given.

The special regulations for each establishment may be enacted by the municipal council or by the commission appointed by it.

The keeping of order and supervision may vary according to the nature, destination, use and importance of each establishment.

)
Whenever such police, order and supervision services are deemed necessary, the cost thereof shall be paid by the directors of the establishments concerned. The municipal council may, for such purpose, establish a tariff of costs for the remuneration of the municipal firemen and policemen on duty during the performances or during the attendance of the public in such establishments.

If the council deems expedient, it may, however, secure the policing, order and safety of such establishments by means of firefighters and agents chosen outside of the municipal police force or the municipal fire safety service, but, in such case, such firefighters and agents shall be accepted by it and wear such special uniform as it shall order.

REPEAL SCHEDULE
In accordance with section 17 of the Act respecting the consolidation of the statutes (chapter R-3), chapter 198 of the Revised Statutes, 1964, in force on 31 December 1977, is repealed effective from the coming into force of chapter R-18 of the Revised Statutes.
