57. Any railway company may, by by-law, impose upon any officer, servant, or person who, before contravening such by-law, has had notice thereof, and is employed by the company, a penalty in favor of the company of not less than thirty days’ pay of such officer or servant, for any contravention of such by-law, and may retain the amount of any such penalty out of the salary or wages of the offender.
