2844. Proof by testimony may be adduced by a single witness.
A child who, in the opinion of the judge, does not understand the nature of an oath, may be permitted to testify without that formality, if the judge considers that the child is sufficiently mature to be able to relate the facts of which he had knowledge, and that he understands the duty to tell the truth. However, a judgment may not be based upon such testimony alone.
