267. Any owner, occupant or tenant of any land, or any member of his family, may take and impound on his own premises any animal found straying in the municipality, on any beach, flat, road, public place, or upon any land whatsoever. Such persons are then vested with the same powers, and subject to the same formalities, obligations and penalties, as pound-keepers.
In cases which come under this article, the animal so impounded cannot be sold except by the pound-keeper of the rural division, if there is one, or if there is no pound-keeper, or if he neglects to do so, then by the rural inspector of the division.
