327. No person shall use the title of insurance agent or carry on business in such capacity unless he gives proof that he holds a certificate to that effect issued by the Inspector General, or unless he is a member of a professional association or corporation of agents or brokers approved by the Inspector General.
No professional association or corporation may be approved unless it requires, in particular, that the persons who wish to become members possess the same qualifications, comply with the same conditions and furnish the same information as may be required by this Act and the regulations for obtaining a certificate.
A person carries on the occupation of insurance agent if, in particular, he offers, promises or attempts to act in that capacity or represents that he is authorized by law to do so.

From 1 October 1989 to the date of the coming into force of sections 7 and 9 of the Act respecting market intermediaries (chapter I-15.1), the first and second paragraphs of section 327 of this Act shall, in respect of market intermediaries in insurance of persons, be read as follows:
“No person shall use the title of insurance agent or carry on business in such capacity unless he is a member of the Association des intermédiaires en assurance de personnes du Québec, which is deemed to be approved for the purposes of this Act.
The persons who apply to become members of that Association shall be entitled, upon payment of the assessment exigible, to be admitted as members where they possess the same qualifications, comply with the same conditions and furnish the same information required by this Act and the regulations thereunder for obtaining a certificate.”.
