Regulation respecting standards for the issue and holding of radiology permits
Professional Code
(chapter C-26, s. 186).
DIVISION I
SCOPE
1. This Regulation applies to members of the following professional orders:
(1)  the Ordre professionnel des chiropraticiens du Québec
(2)  the Ordre professionnel des podiatres du Québec.

DIVISION II
STANDARDS FOR THE ISSUE OF RADIOLOGY PERMITS
2. A radiology permit shall be issued to a member of a professional order to whom this Regulation applies and who:
(1)  has submitted his application in writing to the secretary of the order in a form similar to that set out in Schedule 1;
(2)  has acquired, within the 5 years preceding the year of his application, training in radiology at an educational institution issuing diplomas that give access to a permit of a professional order referred to in section 1 or training recognized as equivalent by the order of which he is a member, that includes a minimum of
(a)  55 hours in radiation protection;
(b)  120 hours in radiological technique;
(c)  125 hours in diagnostic radiology; and
(d)  25 hours in radiation biology.
In appraising the training referred to in an application for training equivalence, the following factors are taken into account:
(a)  the fact that the member holds one or more university diplomas;
(b)  the type of courses taken by the member, course content, the number of hours or credits for each course and the results obtained;
(c)  the training periods successfully completed by the member and any other relevant continuing training or refresher activities; and
(d)  the type and duration of the relevant work experience of the member.

3. A radiology permit shall also be issued to a member of a professional order to whom this Regulation applies and who meets the other conditions prescribed by section 2, although his training was acquired prior to the period specified by that section, if he passes the examination in radiology prescribed by section 4 and given by his professional order.

4. The purpose of the examination is to test the member’s knowledge of each of the following subjects:
(1)  radiation protection;
(2)  radiological technique;
(3)  diagnostic radiology;
(4)  radiobiology.

5. The examination may comprise written, oral and practical parts for each of the subjects it covers.

6. To pass the examination, the member must obtain 60% in each of the written, oral and practical parts of the examination.

7. A member wishing to take the examination shall register by means of a registration from similar to that set out in Schedule 2.

DIVISION III
STANDARDS FOR HOLDING RADIOLOGY PERMITS
8. The holder of a radiology permit shall undergo, during each 12-month period beginning 1 January each year, one continued training period of at least 12 hours covering all of the subjects specified in section 2.

9. The holder of a radiology permit who fails to comply with section 8 shall keep his radiology permit if he passes the examination in radiology prescribed by section 4 and given by his professional order.

10. Sections 4, 5, 6 and 7 of Division II apply to the examination prescribed by this Division, with the necessary modifications.

11. If the permit holder fails the examination, the board of directors shall suspend his permit; such suspension continues until the holder has passed the examination or has undergone the continued training period prescribed by section 8.

12. The holder of a radiology permit who carries out radiological examinations of his patients shall use, on pain of suspension of his radiology permit, radiology equipment that is appropriate to the practice of his profession and that complies with the provisions of the Regulation respecting the application of the Act respecting medical laboratories and organ and tissue conservation (chapter L-0.2, r. 1).

13. The holder of a radiology permit may not practise radiology if he ceases to be entered on the roll of his professional order. In such a case, the board of directors shall suspend the radiology permit of the holder or revoke it if his permit has been revoked.

14. This Regulation replaces the Chiropractors’ radiology permits (Standards for issue and holding) Regulation (O.C. 593-85, 85-03-27).

APPLICATION FOR A RADIOLOGY PERMIT
