(1) Every employer, on polling day, must allow every elector in his employ the necessary period of leave, so that he may have, during the time the polls are open, at least 4 consecutive hours to vote, besides the time usually allowed for the midday meal; the employer must not make any deduction from the salary of such elector nor subject him to any penalty by reason of his absence during such hours.
(2) This article also applies to railway companies and their employees, except those employees engaged in the operation of trains to whom such time cannot be allowed without impairing the service.
(3) Every educational institution, on polling day, must give leave to those students who are electors.
(4) Every person contravening this article is guilty of an offence and liable on summary proceedings to a fine of $100.
