289. (1)  The Government may make such regulations as it deems necessary respecting safety and health in mines, so as to protect the workmen therein employed.
(2)  Copies of such regulations shall be posted up in the most conspicuous places of each mine, in conformity with the instructions of the regional mining inspector.
(3)  Where mining work is entrusted to a contractor or sub-contractor, he shall comply and enforce compliance with the regulations made under this section. In case of any infringement committed in the performance of the work entrusted to him, he shall be liable to the penalties provided in this act as if he were the operator.
