417. If, at the trial of an election contestation, a candidate is proved to have personally engaged any person, at the election to which such contestation relates, as an agent or canvasser, knowing that such person had, within the five preceding years, been found guilty of any corrupt practice by a competent legal tribunal or by the report of any judge or tribunal charged with the trial of election contestations, the election of such candidate, if he has been elected, shall be void.
