409. Every candidate who, by himself or by another on his behalf or with another, compels or induces or endeavours to induce any person to personate any elector, or to take any false oath in any matter wherein an oath is required under this act, shall be guilty of an offence and liable, in addition to any other penalty, to a fine of five hundred to one thousand dollars and to an imprisonment of one to five years and, on failure to pay the fine, to an additional imprisonment of six months to two years.
