377. (1)  On the day of the polling no person shall, before one hour after the closing of the polls, in an electoral district where an election is held, under penalty of being guilty of an offence and liable to a fine of one hundred dollars and, upon failure to pay such fine, to an imprisonment of not more than six months, either sell for a price in money, or exchange for any article, or lend or deliver, or gratuitously supply, any quantity of alcoholic beverage, except for the use of the sick. And in such exceptional case, the burden of proof shall be upon the accused; and moreover, such beverage may only be sold, lent, delivered or supplied upon the certificate of a physician or of a priest or minister of some religious denomination.
(2)  Whosoever gives or delivers a false certificate in respect thereof shall be guilty of an offence and liable to a fine of one hundred dollars and, on failure to pay such fine, to imprisonment for not more than three months.
