351. After transmitting his return, the returning-officer shall deposit or cause to be deposited, in the custody of the sheriff of the district or of the registrar of the registration division in which the nomination of candidates was held, the ballot-boxes used at the election. If he is himself the sheriff or registrar he shall keep them in his possession as such.
