268. Every election officer of an electoral district who acts in any manner as a canvasser for any candidate in such district shall be guilty of an offence and liable to a fine of two hundred dollars to one thousand dollars and to an imprisonment of two months to two years and, on failure to pay the fine, to an additional imprisonment of one month to one year.
