173. (1)  If a candidate dies after the seventh day prior to that for the nomination of candidates and before the closing of the poll, the returning-officer, with the consent of the director general of elections, must fix a day for another nomination of candidates. Such nomination shall take place as soon as possible, allowing a delay of at least ten clear days between the day of posting up the proclamation and the day fixed.
(2)  The election, in other respects, must be held in accordance with the provisions of this act.
(3)  With his return respecting the election the returning-officer must forward to the director general of elections a special return of the reasons which occasioned the postponement of the election.
(4)  The deposit of the deceased candidate shall be handed over to his legal representatives.
