16. (1)  During the election period and during the annual enumeration period, the director general of elections may suspend from his duties any election officer whose appointment appertains to the Gouvernement.
(2)  In such case, the director general of elections shall report to the Gouvernement, stating the reasons for such suspension and the latter may maintain such election officer in his office or dismiss him.
(3)  In case of urgency, the director general of elections may appoint temporarily another person to carry out such duties.
(4)  When the director general of elections so suspends an election officer, he must forthwith notify him of his decision and the election officer so suspended must immediately cease to act.
(5)  On polling-day and during the ten days which precede it, the director general of elections may dismiss for cause any election officer whose appointment appertains to the Gouvernement.
(6)  During the election period and during the annual enumeration period, the director general of elections may dismiss for cause any election officer whose appointment does not appertain to the Gouvernement.
(7)  In the cases of subsections 5 and 6, the election officer must cease to act immediately upon notification of his dismissal.
