57. (1)  Subject to subsection 2, no person accepting or holding any permanent office, commission or employment under the Government of Canada to which an annual salary, or any fee, allowance, emolument or profit of any kind in lieu of an annual salary, coming from Canada, is attached, shall be eligible as a member of the National Assembly, or may sit or vote as such, while holding such office, commission or employment.
(2)  Nothing in this section shall render ineligible or disqualify so to sit or vote, by reason of the salary, fees or emoluments received as such, any officer in the militia or militiaman not receiving permanent salary on the staff of the militia.
