270. The Commission may cause to be sold at auction, after two months have elapsed since they were received, without any judicial formality and following a notice similar to that contemplated by article 594 of the Code of Civil Procedure, the unclaimed moveable effects found in its vehicles or on its property. It shall not be necessary to enumerate all such effects in the notice, but shall be sufficient to indicate their general nature. The Commission shall then not be liable to the owner except for the proceeds of the sale, less the costs of preservation and sale. The owner’s claim in this respect shall be prescribed by one year from the sale.
The Commission, twelve hours after the receipt thereof, may give to charitable institutions or undertakings any perishable effects found in such places and unclaimed within such delay.
It may also give to charitable institutions or undertakings any effects which have remained unsold at an auction.
In the case of the two preceding paragraphs, the Commission shall be free from any liability toward the owners of the articles concerned.
