18. The term of office of each member of the executive committee, including the chairman and vice-chairman, shall be four years, but if such a member ceases to be a member of the Council before the expiry of such four years, his term of office shall expire on the date on which he ceases so to be a member of the Council; in such case, he shall nevertheless remain in office until his successor is appointed.
For the purposes of the preceding paragraph, a member of the executive committee shall not cease to be a member of the Council upon the expiry of his term of office as mayor or as a member of the council of a municipality, provided that he is nominated as a candidate for such a position at the ensuing election, is elected thereat and, in the case of a member of the executive committee of the City of Montréal, is re-elected at such election.
In the event of the resignation of a member of the executive committee, including the chairman and vice-chairman, the term of office of the resigning member shall end on the date of receipt by the secretary of the Community of a written notice to such effect, signed by the resigning member, except in the case of a member representing the City of Montréal; in the latter case, the term of office shall end the day such member ceases to be a member of the executive committee of the City of Montréal pursuant to the charter of that city. In the case of the resignation of a member of the executive committee, including the chairman and vice-chairman, such member shall remain in office until his successor has been appointed.
