A-23.1 - Act respecting the National Assembly

124.1. The Leader of the Official Opposition, a Member to whom subparagraph 6 of the first paragraph of section 7 of the Act respecting the conditions of employment and the pension plan of the Members of the National Assembly (chapter C-52.1) applies, the President and the Vice-Presidents of the National Assembly, the Government House Leader, the Official Opposition House Leader and the House Leader of a party contemplated in paragraph 6 of section 7 of the said Act, and the Chief Government Whip, the Chief Official Opposition Whip and the Whip of a party contemplated in subparagraph 6 of the first paragraph of section 7 of the said Act, may appoint their respective executive secretaries and the other persons required for the orderly administration of their respective offices.
Members other than those contemplated in the first paragraph or in sections 11.5 and 11.6 of the Executive Power Act (chapter E-18) may appoint such persons as are required to assist them in carrying out their duties.
For the duration of the 43rd Legislature, the first paragraph is replaced by the following paragraph:
“The Leader of the Official Opposition, the Leader of the party recognized as the Second Opposition Group, the Leader of the party recognized as the Third Opposition Group, the President and the Vice-Presidents of the National Assembly, the Government House Leader, the Official Opposition House Leader, the House Leader of the party recognized as the Second Opposition Group, the Chief Government Whip, the Chief Official Opposition Whip and the Whip of the party recognized as the Second Opposition Group may appoint their respective executive secretaries and the other persons required for the orderly administration of their respective offices.”

For the duration of the 42nd Legislature, the first paragraph is amended by replacing “, the Chief Official Opposition Whip and the Whip of a party contemplated in subparagraph 6 of the first paragraph of section 7 of the said Act,” by “and the Chief Official Opposition Whip”.
